The European Commission’s decision not to grant financial benefits under Article 73 of the EU Staff Regulations (occupational illness) to the spouse of a deceased EU civil servant

Dear Mr X,

On 20 June 2019, you submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman against the European Commission concerning the above subject matter.

Given the circumstances of your complaint, I very much regret having to inform you that the European Ombudsman cannot help you. Having carefully considered the information provided by you, including the Commission’s reply to your administrative complaint, I do not find any manifest error in the Commission’s conclusion that it cannot now start the procedure for possible recognition of an occupational disease in your late wife’s case.

I understand you will be disappointed by this decision, but I also trust that the Commission’s staff have otherwise helped you in all appropriate ways in relation to the situation here concerned.

Yours sincerely,

Tina Nilsson
