Ombudsman Annual Report approved by the EP’s Petitions Committee

On 12 November 2019, the European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions has approved the Ombudsman’s 2018 Annual Report. The next step is a plenary vote in December.

Concerns about transparency in the EU administration accounted for the biggest proportion of the Ombudsman's cases (24.6%) in 2018.

The year also saw the number of complaints rise again (+17%) marking increased public awareness of the office.

The report details inquiries related to EU decision-making accountability, lobbying transparency, fundamental rights, citizen-participation in EU policy-making and much more.
