This is a video of the European Network of Ombudsmen (ENO) conference which took place in the European Parliament in 2019.

The event brought together around 100 national and regional ombudsmen from all over Europe, as well as MEPs, EU officials, organizations and other interested participants. With the European elections taking place in May 2019, the discussion topic was how to improve participatory democracy in the EU.

European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly welcomes participants after the conference was opened by Shada Islam, the moderator. Michael Barnier, the EU Chief Negotiator for Brexit, gives the keynote address via video.

The speakers at the event are the European Ombudsman; Maite Pagazurutundúa, Member of the European Parliament; Ülle Madise, the Estonian Ombudsman; Marian Wendt, the Chair of the Petitions Committee at the German Bundestag; and Laura Sullivan, the Executive Director of WeMove.EU.

After the initial panel discussion, the floor is opened to the audience to put questions to the panelists.
