Dear Mr X,
You recently submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman against the Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations (APPF) concerning the above issue.
By letter of 14 January 2025, the APPF informed you that it has no powers to investigate national political parties or assess their compliance with the law. These explanations are correct and in line with the APPF’s mandate as set out in Regulation 1141/2014[1], which only covers the registration, control and imposition of sanctions on European political parties.
Therefore, we have decided to close the inquiry with the conclusion that there is nothing to suggest that the APPF acted with maladministration.[2]
Yours sincerely,
Tina Nilsson
