Decision in case 604/2019/MMO on the European Commission’s failure to answer correspondence on the issue that the Greek social security organisation ceased paying the complainant’s pension

1. On 30 August 2018, the complainant wrote to the European Commission claiming that the Greek social security organisation had ceased paying her pension, which was contrary to several provisions of Greek and EU law as well as to the European Convention of Human Rights. On 5 December 2018, the complainant reminded the European Commission of the issue via its Representation in Athens. As the complainant did not receive a reply, she turned to the European Ombudsman, on 25 March 2019.

2. The Ombudsman’s inquiry team contacted the Commission. In the meantime, however, the Commission had replied to the complainant, and it forwarded a copy of that reply to the Ombudsman. The inquiry team finds the Commission’s reply to be reasonable and appropriate.

3. As a reply has now been sent, this complaint is resolved[1] and I have decided to close the case[2].
