Decision of the European Ombudsman in case 2072/2019/VB on how the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) dealt with IT problems in a translation test in a Commission procurement procedure for translation services

Dear Ms X,

On 29 October 2019, you submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman against EPSO on behalf of Országos Fordító és Fordításhitelesítő Iroda (OFFI) concerning the above issue.[1] The Ombudsman has asked me to deal with your complaint and reply to you on her behalf.

OFFI submitted a tender for the provision of translation services in the context of a European Commission’s call for tenders (TRAD19). The translation tests were organised by EPSO. However, OFFI’s translators experienced technical difficulties which prevented them from taking the test. OFFI considers that EPSO and its contractor did not handle the issue properly and OFFI thus wants the tests to be redone.

The Ombudsman contacted EPSO asking it to reply to the complaint.

On 2 December 2019, OFFI informed the Ombudsman that the Commission had in the meantime decided to annul the test because of the technical problems and that the test will be redone.

As the issue complained about has been settled, the case is closed.

Yours sincerely,

Tina Nilsson
