Dear Mr X,
You recently submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman concerning the European Commission’s reply, through Europe Direct, to your correspondence regarding alleged corruption in Austria.
After careful analysis of all the information you have sent us, we have decided to close the inquiry with the following conclusion:
There was no maladministration.[1]
This is because Europe Direct has provided you with a reasonable and appropriate reply. Europe Direct explained to you in detail when it may intervene in the event of a complaint alleging infringement of fundamental rights by a Member State. It stated that the Commission could not intervene regarding the allegations you made against Austria, as these allegations are not related to the implementation of EU law. Finally, Europe Direct has provided you with information on a possible redress mechanism at national level.
I appreciate this may not be your desired outcome, but I hope you find these explanations helpful. Thank you for having contacted the European Ombudsman.
Yours sincerely,
Tina Nilsson
