Fraternité 2020 (ECI)
3% of the EU budget for exchange programmes from 2014
Fraternité 2020 was the first ECI to be registered by the Commission (9/5 2012) and is one of the first ECI's that started collecting signatures. The idea comes from the Manifesto Fraternité 2020 of the Cluny Young Europeans' Conference held in 2010.
Fraternité 2020 calls for more opportunities for citizens to go abroad and experience Europe first-hand:
- Making more funds available for EU exchange programmes.
- Making sure programmes develop more skills among the participants.
- Tracking progress in the field of mobility through better monitoring.
The initiative experienced some startup problems which resulted in the EC hosting the signature collection on their own servers and in extending the deadline. At this point in time (February 2013) F2020 has a citizens' committee of a considerable size and the collection of signatures is just under 60.000 out of the 1.000.000 signatures needed. The deadline for collection of signatures is November 2013.
