Decision of the European Ombudsman on complaint 341/2001/(BB)IJH against the European Parliament

Strasbourg, 30 June 2003

Dear Mr J.,

On 7 March 2001, you made a complaint to the European Ombudsman against the European Parliament concerning lack of information in the context of Open Competition EUR/C/153/98.

I would like to inform you that Mr Jacob Söderman has retired and that, from 1 April 2003, I am his successor as European Ombudsman.

On 11 December 2002, following an in-depth inquiry into your complaint, including a draft recommendation, Mr Söderman submitted a special report to the European Parliament, in accordance with Article 3 (7) of the Statute of the European Ombudsman. The special report recommended that, in future competitions, the European Parliament should publish the names of successful candidates and inform candidates accordingly in the notices of competition. On the same day, Mr Söderman informed you by letter of the special report.

By letter dated 25 February 2003, the President of the European Parliament, Mr Pat COX accepted the recommendation.

I therefore close the file on the complaint.

Please find enclosed, for your information, a copy of the Finnish version of the Special Report, as promised in Mr Söderman’s letter to you of 11 December 2002.

Yours sincerely,

P. Nikiforos Diamandouros
