The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is a decentralised agency of the European Union, located in London. EMA approves and monitors medicines placed on the EU market, with a view to protecting public health. It receives information from the competent authorities in the Member States and from pharmaceutical companies.
In 2012, EMA announced a new pro-active transparency policy, giving the broadest possible public access to clinical trial data in a user-friendly way. EMA intends to finalise a revised wording for its pro-active clinical trial data policy in October 2014.
