Decision in case 596/2017/JAS on the European Commission’s delay in paying the severance grant to a former staff member

1. The complaint is about the European Commission’s alleged delay in paying the severance grant to a former staff member. A severance grant is paid to staff leaving the service who are not entitled to a retirement pension[1].

2. The Ombudsman’s inquiry team contacted the Commission’s services regarding the matter complained about. During the course of these contacts, the Commission’s services informed the Ombudsman’s inquiry team that the internal procedure had been completed and that the money had been transferred to the complainant.

3.  On 21 May 2017, the complainant confirmed that he had received the payment of his severance grant.

4. This complaint is thus resolved and the Ombudsman closes the case.
