Dear Mr X,
You recently submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman concerning Europol’s conclusion that it did not hold documents, for a specified period, related to its communication with the organisation WeProtect Global Alliance.
Our inquiry team met with Europol on 28 September 2023. Europol informed us that it has in the meantime carried out a new search and identified documents that fall within the scope of your request.
Europol has processed the matter anew and will shortly send you a new initial decision under Regulation 1049/2001. In light of these developments, we have closed the case as settled.
Please note that our inquiry concerned Europol’s failure to identify documents falling within the scope of your public access request. Should you not be satisfied with the substance of Europol’s new initial decision and the access granted, you will have to make a confirmatory application before turning to the Ombudsman.
Please also find attached for your information a copy of the meeting report, which will be published on our website on the page for this inquiry.
Yours sincerely,
Rosita Hickey
