Public consultation on the draft declaration of public service principles for EU civil servants
Dear Sir/Madam,
By note of 6 May last, you expressed your support in principle for the initiative in question, while making a number of suggestions relating to the formulation of the principles, for which I thank you.
It seems useful to me to clarify, first of all, that it has never been my intention to suggest that the principles contained in the draft declaration are not already observed or put into practice by EU officials. As stated in the consultation paper itself, by elaborating these principles in a concise manner, the central objective of the declaration is to increase citizens' trust in the European public service and the EU institutions it serves.
In this context, I am very grateful for your positive and constructive proposals, in particular the one concerning the drafting of the French version. I can already inform you that this version will be revised to take into account your suggestion to adopt the present of the designator rather than the conditional in its wording.
I am confident that this will contribute to achieving the objective set out above while dispelling the concerns you have expressed.
