On the invitation of the German MEP Daniel Caspary (EPP) and the German Member of the Bundestag and State Secretary Hans-Joachim Fuchtel (CDU), the Ombudsman visited several towns in Baden-Württemberg on 23 September 2011. Mr Diamandouros welcomed this invitation as a good opportunity to enter into a direct dialogue with citizens, companies, NGOs, municipalities, and others at the regional level.

The Ombudsman gave an exclusive interview to the main newspaper in the region, the Südwest-Presse, which published a long report about the Ombudsman's work and complaints from Germany.

Afterwards, Mr Diamandouros talked to representatives of the Chamber of Commerce (IHK) in Nagold. The Ombudsman explained what he could concretely do for businesses. The representatives of around 20 different companies from the region presented the problems that they had encountered with EU legislation and the EU administration.

In Bad Liebenzell, the Ombudsman met with the head of the "Internationales Forum Burg Liebenzell" and his team, as well as with several local politicians. The Forum is active in the field of political education of young people, including EU issues.

The day ended with an event in Altensteig. Around 30 representatives of schools, municipalities, and other organisations involved in EU projects and programmes (e.g., town-twinning) presented their work to the Ombudsman. Mr Diamandouros explained his services and gave examples of cases he had been able to solve that were of interest to the participants.
