The third round of voting for the election of the new European Ombudsman took place on Wednesday, 3 July at 11.30 CET.
The results are as follows:
Number of votes cast: 698
Number of valid votes cast: 635
Number of votes required for an absolute majority: 318
- Ria Oomen-Ruijten: 276
- Emily O'Reilly: 359
Emily O'Reilly was therefore elected to serve as European Ombudsman, having obtained an absolute majority of the valid votes cast.

The second round of voting for the election of the new European Ombudsman took place on Wednesday, 3 July at 11.30 CET.
The results are as follows:
Number of votes cast: 688
Number of valid votes cast: 640
Number of votes required for an absolute majority: 321

- Emily O'Reilly: 232
- Dagmar Roth-Behrendt: 120
- Francesco Speroni: 40
Given that no candidate obtained an absolute majority of the valid votes cast, a third round of voting was held at 11.30 CET on Wednesday, 3 July.
The first round of voting for the election of the new European Ombudsman took place on Tuesday, 2 July at 12.00 CET.
The results are as follows:
Number of votes cast: 713
Number of valid votes cast: 635
Number of votes required for an absolute majority: 318

- Markus Jaeger: 34
- Ria Oomen-Ruijten: 203
- Emily O'Reilly: 203

Given that no candidate obtained an absolute majority of the valid votes cast, a second round of voting was held at 11.30 CET on Wednesday, 3 July.
