Ombudsman calls for EU access to documents law to be modernised

European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly has called for the EU’s access to documents law, which is twenty years old this year, to be updated to reflect the reality of modern communications.

The Ombudsman has also published a guide for the EU administration on how it can better implement its obligations regarding the public’s right to access documents.

What we do

The European Ombudsman works to promote good administration at EU level. The Ombudsman investigates complaints about maladministration by EU institutions and bodies, and also proactively looks into broader systemic issues.
