Ombudsman: ethics and conduct

Code of Conduct for the European Ombudsman

Emily O'Reilly adopted the Code of Conduct for the Ombudsman on 5 February 2015. This initiative demonstrates her commitment to transparency and ethical conduct. It also reflects her strong belief that European institutions may claim back citizens' trust only by delivering a citizen-friendly, accountable, and transparent service that adheres to the highest ethical standards.

In the Ombudsman's Strategy, as put forward in Towards 2019, we commit ourselves to practice what we preach and to fully respect, among others, the principles of integrity and accountability in all our activities. The material in the Ethics and conduct section of the Ombudsman website aims at fulfilling this commitment.

Besides the Code of Conduct and the Ombudsman's declaration of interests, this section includes information about mission and representation expenses. This information, viewed in combination with information published in other webpages of the Ombudsman's site, provides a clear picture of the Ombudsman's conduct and use of resources.
