This is a video of the ceremony for the 2019 European Ombudsman ‘Award for Good Administration’ - where prizes (in different categories and an overall winner) are awarded for projects from EU institutions. Shada Islam, the moderator, starts off the ceremony after which European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly welcomes the public and online viewers.

Members of the Advisory Board Christopher Docksey, Honorary Director-General of the European Data Protection Supervisor, and Peter Tyndall, President of the International Ombudsman Institute give short speeches. Then Ms Islam presents the projects in the different categories and Ms O’Reilly announces the winners. After receiving the prize, the winners say a few words.

In this edition, the overall winners are DG Environment and DG GROW for their initiative on plastics pollution reduction and the accompanying awareness-raising campaign. In the category excellence through collaboration, the winner is the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for the project ‘Raising awareness about the plight of bees’.

The European Commission’s DG EAC Units B3 and R4 win in the category excellence in citizen-focused services delivery for their project ‘Discover EU - Giving young people the chance to discover Europe’.

In the category excellence in open administration, the winner is Unit E1 from DG REGIO in the European Commission for its project ‘Integrity Pacts - Reducing corruption in public tenders’.

Europol receives an award in the excellence in innovation/transformation category for its work on ‘Using crowd intelligence to rescue sexually exploited children’. The category excellence in communications has two winners: Unit 1 from DG JUST in the European Commission for it ‘Tailored toolkits for raising awareness about LGBTI rights’ and the project ‘What Europe does for me’, from the European Parliamentary Research Service. MetooEP receives a special award for its campaign on ‘Zero tolerance for sexual harassment in the workplace’.

After all the prizes are awarded, the Ombudsman closes the event.
