# Decision on how the European Commission replied to requests to intervene in an individual case against Spanish police and other public authorities (case 1673/2023/RVK)

Dear Mr van X,

You recently submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman concerning the European Commission's refusal to investigate your allegations against the Spanish police and other public authorities.

In your complaint, you took issue with the Commission's reply in which it informed you that it does not have the authority to intervene in your case.

After careful analysis of all the information you provided with your complaint, we have decided to close the inquiry with the following conclusion:

**There was no maladministration by the European Commission.**

In its letters of 3 January 2023, 26 January 2022 and 19 November 2021, the Commission provided you with a reasonable and appropriate reply, explaining why it may not intervene in cases before national courts and other authorities or to review or change their decisions. These powers lie exclusively with the national justice systems.
