How the European Investment Bank (EIB) weighed the environmental impact assessments of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline before financing the projects
Case 2030/2020/NH - Opened on Friday | 28 May 2021 - Institution concerned European Investment Bank
The complainants were concerned that the European Investment Bank (EIB) had failed to ensure that sufficient environmental and social impact assessments were completed (notably as regards the climate change impact) before granting loans to two pipeline projects - the Trans Adriatic Pipeline and Trans-Anatolian Pipeline. The complainants raised with the EIB's Complaints Mechanism (EIB-CM) their concerns about irregularities in how the impact assessments were conducted, but were dissatisfied with how the EIB-CM dealt with these concerns.
Based on an initial assessment, the Ombudsman considered that the EIB provided a reasonable reply to the complainant, however she asked the EIB for additional information on the case.
