The Ombudsman's Team

The Ombudsman's Team

To ensure that the institution can properly carry out the twin tasks of dealing with complaints in all 24 Treaty languages and of raising awareness about the right to complain, the Ombudsman has a well-qualified, multilingual staff. This section contains a full list of staff members and their job titles.

European Ombudsman

Cabinet of the European Ombudsman

The cabinet team is responsible personally to the Ombudsman, working under her direct instruction. It advises and assists the Ombudsman to help ensure implementation of her vision, strategy and objectives.
All cabinet members may accompany the Ombudsman on duty trips as requested, and may help draft speeches, presentations or reports as assigned.

    Overall responsibility for the Ombudsman strategy, interinstitutional relations including European Parliament and cabinet management. Works with the Secretariat-General in ensuring implementation of the strategy. Advises the Ombudsman on communication and outreach activities.

    Advises the Ombudsman on inquiries, inquiry processes and related issues.

    Senior adviser to Ombudsman and on access to documents, complaint-handling processes and outcomes. Represents Ombudsman as speaker at conferences and events.

    Responsible for organising the Ombudsman’s agenda, missions and meetings.

    Policy Assistant
    Responsible for day-to-day relations with European Parliament, including the Committee on Petitions. Assists implementation of EO strategy internally and externally, including the preparation of EO briefings.

    Cabinet Assistant
    Responsible for managing the Ombudsman’s agenda; handles all incoming Ombudsman correspondence and invitations; manages the Cabinet’s digital archive; maintains the Ombudsman’s intranet section. Responsible for ad-hoc administrative tasks as assigned.

Secretariat-General

The Secretariat-General is responsible for the overall management of the office and for ensuring overall coordination and implementation of the Ombudsman's strategy.

Communication Unit

The Communications Unit is responsible for informing the general public, key target audiences, and other stakeholders about the Ombudsman's inquiries and strategic work, and her engagement in relevant EU debates and policy developments.
The Unit is responsible for general strategic communications work, as the coordination of the European Network of Ombudsmen.

Unit 1 - Inquiries and ICT

Unit 1 carries out inquiries into possible instances of maladministration with the aim of finding solutions in line with the strategic objectives and priorities set out by the Ombudsman.
Unit 1 also manages ICT support and solutions for the Ombudsman’s Office, deals with the European Network of Ombudsmen and coordinates with other international organisations.

Unit 2 - Coordination of Public Interest Inquiries

Inquiries Unit 2 coordinates inquiries which the Ombudsman considers to be of particular public interest and manages the fast-track procedure for dealing with public access to documents cases.

Unit 5 - Process Management and Inquiries

Unit 5 deals with complaints and carries out inquiries into possible instances of maladministration with the aim of finding solutions in line with the strategic objectives and priorities set out by the Ombudsman.

Strategic Inquiries Unit

The mission of the Strategic Inquiries Unit is to promote systemic improvements in the EU administration, primarily by carrying out and supervising own-initiative inquiries and engaging with the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies in line with the objectives set out in the Ombudsman's Towards 2019 Strategy and the priorities identified in the Annual Management Plan.

Personnel, Administration, and Budget Unit

The Personnel, Administration, and Budget Unit is responsible for all administrative matters related to the institution's buildings and equipment, personnel, budget and finances.
