Decision of the European Ombudsman on the appointment of a Data Protection Officer

The European Ombudsman

Having regard to:

(1) Article 24 and 228 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and Article 107d of the Treaty establishing the European Energy Community;

(2) Regulation (EC) N°45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data[1];

(3) The Decision of the European Ombudsman of 3 September 2002 adopting implementing rules concerning the tasks, duties and power of the Data Protection Officer.

(4) The report of 19 June 2015 of the Selection Board in which it recommended that Mr Juliano Franco be appointed as Data Protection Officer of the European Ombudsman's Office,

Considering that Ms Christina Karakosta shall be transferred to the European Commission as from 1 September 2015 and that she therefore decided to resign from her position as Data Protection Officer as from 10 July 2015.

Has adopted the following Decision:

Article 1

Mr Juliano Franco is appointed as Data Protection Officer of the European Ombudsman's Office until 31 August 2017.

Article 2

The appointment shall be registered with the European Data Protection Supervisor, in accordance with Article 24 (5) of Regulation 45/2001.

Article 3

This decision shall have effect as from 10 July 2015.
