Room ASP A 1G-2 European Parliament, rue Wiertz, Brussels
On 20 January 2010, P. Nikiforos Diamandouros was re-elected as European Ombudsman by the European Parliament. The Ombudsman has announced the following as priorities for the next five years:
- To ensure that citizens profit fully from the Treaty of Lisbon and the Charter of Fundamental Rights;
- To strengthen a "culture of service" to citizens within the EU administration; and
- To further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Ombudsman's office
The Ombudsman is keen to discuss these priorities with interested parties, with a view to gathering suggestions and ideas on how best to shape his new mandate. He, therefore, invites citizens, NGOs, business associations, interest groups, journalists, regional offices and other interested organisations to attend this seminar and to contribute to its deliberations.
